For marination:
300–400g basa fish fillets (cut into finger-sized strips)
1 tbsp lemon juice
1 tsp salt
1 tsp black pepper
1 tsp ginger-garlic paste
1 tsp chili powder or paprika
½ tsp turmeric (optional)
For coating:
½ cup all-purpose flour (maida)
1 egg (beaten)
1 cup bread crumbs (or crushed cornflakes for extra crunch)
Optional: mixed herbs or chili flakes in breadcrumbs for extra flavor
For frying:
Oil (for deep or shallow frying)
Instructions:
1. Marinate the Fish:
In a bowl, combine the fish strips with lemon juice, salt, pepper, chili powder, turmeric, and ginger-garlic paste.
Mix well, cover, and marinate for at least 20–30 minutes (or refrigerate for more flavor).
2. Prepare for Coating:
Set up three bowls: one with flour, one with beaten egg, and one with breadcrumbs.
3. Coat the Fish Fingers:
Dip each marinated fish strip first in flour, then in the egg, and finally coat with breadcrumbs.
Press the crumbs gently so they stick well.
4. Fry Until Golden:
Heat oil in a pan over medium heat.
Fry the coated fish fingers in batches until golden brown and crispy (about 3–4 minutes per side).
Place on paper towels to absorb excess oil.
5. Serve Hot:
Serve with tartar sauce, spicy mayo, or a Nepali-style achar .
