The Quest for a Sunflower Sea Star
In today’s expedition, we return to the hauntingly symmetrical ruins of Pier 3, Adak Island. Our objective is simple: locate the elusive Pycnopodia helianthoides — known to civilians as the Sunflower Sea Star.
Equipped with an optimistic spirit, a mild sense of scientific purpose, and absolutely no guarantee of success, I peer into tide pools and beneath creaky old pilings while quietly hoping the creature will present itself, preferably with a certain cinematic flair.
Join me for a gentle, meandering search. The ocean is cold. The stakes are low. The sea star is uncooperative.
