A hands-on structural inspection of the Client Dam Tainter gates was performed by AECOM on August 12 and 13, 2024 and a follow-up hands-on inspection was performed November 13, 2024 in accordance with Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). During the inspection, cracks in the lower trunnion yoke casting faces were identified and structural analysis of the trunnion assembly was recommended to determine suitability for continued operation of the gates. Following observation of the cracks in the yoke casting faces structural analysis of the spillway gate trunnion assemblies was undertaken using the finite element analysis program DIANA. The model was to consist of the trunnion yoke casting, pins, bearings, bushings, trunnion hub casting and any necessary members. The analysis considered load combinations with and without the yoke casting face cracks as well as consideration for the lower gate strut arm bearing on the lower yoke casting plate. This webinar presents the criteria, methodology, analysis, and evaluation for the Client Dam Trunnion Assembly analysis.
