Great Western Railway 1950's. Phantom ride along the Welsh coast on the front of a train.

Made for the Festival of Britain 1951

POV of tracks moving along under the train. Electricity lines and clouds. POV from front of train approaching tiny station platform, steam train stationary on other line. Guard waiting on platform as train pulls in, mountains increasingly visible in the distance, water tower and signal visible as train passes through. Phantom ride style. Another part of the line, railway curving round coast beside a lake or bay. Beneath more mountainous terrain, line curves around, slight reflection in the glass seen. Sea views as waves roll in near the line, beach, mountains in distance. Another section of railway curving under hillside, sea on the left, hills in the distance, electricity pylons along track. Continuing on, more mountains closer. Wide bay with beach on the other side., passing craggy rocks near the cliff edge down to the sea. Closer view of the water below and gulls sitting on the rocks near the line. Wide, curving beach of smooth sand. Raised railway line with fields on either side, front POV curving along towards mountains and lower hills, some houses on the nearby hills, passes a lowered signal. CU on tracks moving. Approaching some houses on the left with mountains in distance and bay behind.

Steam train approaching camera, travels past over the bridge, camera turns to follow the train. POV from train as it passes the higher iron walls of the bridge as it nears the town. Distant view of train with red carriages on the Barmouth side of the estuary now, tall terraced houses on the cliff. Tunnel approach, going through the tunnel, out the other side to see more houses clustered near the water.

POV from front of train travelling under a small road bridge with a row of trees on either side and a house on the left, past a small platform, out the other side, past a house on the right. drystone walled fields all around, under another bridge, views towards Snowdonia beyond. Series of shots of the surrounding fields and old farm houses and barns near the railway.
The same stretch of line (from the house near the road bridge), this time filmed from the left side of the train. Going over a river, moored boats up on the banks. Close view of the riverside buildings, man with a cart, cars and vans parked nearby, camera turns to the station platform, guards on the platform, signal box. CU on train tracks. Under a bridge, higher embankments, POV from front of train. Gorse growing on the banks. Wide view of bay, rocky shore and mountains beyond. View from bank looking towards approaching steam train and sea. Lovely POV from front of train curving round coastline and bay, mountains beyond, Harlech Castle perched on the hillside. Sea view and dunes. Series of POVs from front and left on the approach to Harlech, sea, sand dunes, rocky shore, tide out. View from window with train in view as it passes a house, smoke rising in front from the engine, the castle, view from the railway looking up at it on the hill, very picturesque...
