Day 304 of my daily video posting project. I have been working on this project since November 2023--learning and posting a video of new piano music every day!

This video is a jazzy arrangement of "Almost Like Being In Love" from the movie Brigadoon. The music was written by Frederick Loewe, with lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner. (Usually you hear of the pair of them as Lerner and Loewe, but since these are instrumental versions, I like to put the composer first!)This arrangement can be found in Hal Leonard's collection: "Jazz Piano Solos: Late Night Jazz".

Brigadoon is a lovely movie musical. I have an older sister that used to love watching old movies. And since she was the boss of the remote control, that usually meant that I would watch them too! Brigadoon is a classic, and so is this song. I love how it captures the euphoric feeling of "being in love".

The opening starts off slowly, with rubato (stretchy, elastic time), which perfectly captures the idea of the movie of two gentlemen tourists that stumble upon a magical Scottish town that only appears once every hundred years. The main chorus and verse of the tune is presented in an upbeat, swing arrangement that has nice rhythmic harmony elements that are really fun to play. It also has a nice written out solo section that is really cheerful.
