Model Railways 40 - Bachmann class 205 2H Thumper DEMU 1122 with Legomanbiffo Sound review

a review of Bachmann/Kernow DEMU 1122. actually class 204 rather than 205

this is the second batch of Hampshire units, built in 1958 for use on the Ashford to Hastings and New Romney branch line, and also between Crowhurst and Bexhill West.

these units were allocated to West Marina depot, st leonards for these services, but were soon transferred west to Eastleigh for use on the mid hants routes. 1122 was reformed with the ex 2EPB trailer car displaced from the class 206 3R units and became a class 3T.

the only real issue is the fact that the units have roof electrical conduit for the coach lighting which was present up to unit 1118, otherwise is an excellent model

i have fitted it with the excellent as ever Legomanbiffo sound chip
fitted with 2 sugar cube speakers, and with a modified recording, as there is no buzz buzz with the start bells. the buzz buzz was generally a DMU thing whereas on the southern generally you got two on the bell and off you went. the buzz you hear was recorded off the 'Loudafone' which is basically a basic electric speaking tube used between the guard and driver, which utilised a buzzer for calling rather than a whistle used on ships where you would blow down the tube to call the other end on their speaking tubes
