“Befitting the project’s title, the three connect fluently as one, enlivening pieces drawing from multiple influences … the three travel attractively varied soundscapes” - Philip Booth, Jazziz Magazine
★★★★ “Bold … Close Connection could hardly be better named. Gardony has been recording for Sunnyside for 30 years and has been working with Lockwood and Israel since the turn of the millennium… Gardony [has] reconvened the group and basically handed them a round-the-world ticket, taking in African rhythms on the lovely ’Savanna Sunrise’ and contrasting ‘Everybody Needs A Home” to New Orleans and Harlem.” – DownBeat
“Highly satisfying...a very attractive piece of musical synthesis.” – John Garratt, Pop Matters
"An eclectic, inventive, energetic and surprising pianist and composer. An authority in prog-jazz." – Elio Bussolino, Rockerilla Magazine
"Irrepressible...Bartók meets McCoy Tyner.” – Michael Ullman, Fanfare
"An intoxicating mix of through composed and in-the-moment playing, punctuated with thrills and surprises.” – Jim Hynes, Making a Scene
"Gardony and his longtime trio of bassist John Lockwood and drummer Yoron Israel play six Gardony compositions informed by his Hungarian roots and that country’s folk music and six improvisations, all full of inventive twists and turns. … This is an ambitious and message-driven release.” – Pierre Giroux, New York City Jazz Record
"Laszlo Gardony, along with Yoron Israel and John Lockwood, has created music that shines in the darkness that seems to envelop our world. Recorded as the pandemic still had its tight grip on this country and abroad, this music, even with several darker moments, brims with hope, joy, and fun!" – Richard Kamins, StepTempest
"These three are veteran players recording their sixth album together, and the fact that they’ve been playing together for more than 20 years is absolutely reflected in the music’s highly interactive nature. … When world class musicians take complex ideas and set out to play with them in a setting that demands and rewards close interaction, you never know what’s going to happen. Finding out is half the fun.” – Gary Whitehouse, A Green Man Review
