The oral cavity, commonly known as the mouth, is the entry point of the digestive system. It includes the lips, cheeks, tongue, teeth, hard and soft palate, and salivary glands. This is where digestion begins — with chewing and saliva mixing with food. The oral cavity also plays a major role in speech and facial expressions. It’s lined with a special tissue called *oral mucosa*, which keeps it moist and protected.
