Evan uses strides to stay sharp with just 8 days to go till the OC Marathon. During the taper, workouts are reduced from 3 to 2 per week. To stay sharp Evan adds an extra day of strides.
Running 100m at around 1-mile race pace has a number of benefits. High cadence, long stride length, and high impact force increases running economy at marathon race pace. The short intervals with full rest between repetitions, keep the heart rate in control and allows Evan to avoid fatigue while stimulating the neuromuscular pathways of fast running.
Tomorrow is Evan's final medium long run workout before race day. Today's strides will open up her hips, promote tendon stiffness, and get her mind primed to nail the final long workout of the build.
