I wrote a rhyming, metrical terza rima translation of this song, and I was so proud of it that I bought the record, imported it to America and made this video. The rhymes don't come through as clearly in the video, so here it is:
I hold my slumb’ring child close to me—
(you may be young, but hear, that you may know)
that I, your mother, born in Izumi,
am, too, the fox from Shinoda—'tis so!—
this helpless vixen did your father find!
Thus far we’ve lived and loved, now I must go;
(though thoughts of leaving never crossed my mind,)
my vulpine form has shown itself once more.
And though I leave our home, I leave behind
this farewell poem, scrawled upon the door.
And it's reasonably literal, too.
