Episode 766. Kilkerran continues to show respect for Scotch drinkers with natural colour, non-chill filtered integrity drams. Today I pour the Kilkerran 8 Year Old Cask Strength Batch 11 (55.6%, ex-bourbon, November 2024)—a savoury, layered whisky full of clove, nutmeg, caramel sweetness, toffee, and vanilla. An absolute beauty.
Then I compare it with the Kilkerran Heavily Peated Batch 8—90% ex-bourbon, 10% ex-sherry. The sherry influence brings surprising berry and pie-filling notes before the peat lands heavy: earthy, ashy, smoky, salty. Rougher, less approachable, but full of character.
Two drams, one distillery, and a fascinating side-by-side. Which one would you pour?
