A whale watcher Gnome, Pablo, who lives in an Antarctica Sanctuary, reports to the Trondheim Council that great blue whales are being killed by humans. Millius dispatches David and Tomte. With the help of a Weddell seal, they meet Pablo who introduces them to a whale family. The father whale is angry. His son won't sing the traditional whale song. David councils the father. Tomte talks with the son. A menacing whaling ship descends. The father acts as a decoy, leading the Whalers away from the pod. Aboard the whaling ship, the Captain orders his crew to man the harpoons. The Captain's young daughter pleads with her father to spare the whale and is rebuked. She runs to the icy bow of the ship and looks out.

In his panicked flight, the father whale swims into a fishing net. David and Tomte rally to the rescue with the help of seals and penguins as the whaling ship and fishing trawler collide. The Captain's daughter is pitched into the frigid sea. David swims to her, reassuring her she is all right. The Captain looks into the water, his face filled with grief and remorse. Suddenly, the father whale leaps from the sea, returning the captain's daughter. Overwhelmed with gratitude, the Captain promises never hunt whales again. David and Tomte watch as the whale family is reunited and father and son sing the same song. A job well done, David and Tomte head home.
