Homemade Sweetened Condensed Milk | Baking Basics

Homemade sweetened condensed milk is incredibly easy to make and can be used in coffee, baking, and some ice cream recipes. You can easily customize this recipe for any dietary needs by changing the granulated sugar and using honey, agave, sugar-free sweeteners, or maple syrup or using any type of milk, like 2% milk, almond milk, or oat milk. To enhance the flavor of sweetened condensed milk, you can add 2 tablespoons of butter and 1 tsp of vanilla extract, but they are not found in the traditional cans of sweetened condensed milk sold in grocery stores. Let this sweetened condensed milk cool completely before using in any recipe. If you are not planning on using it immediately, this sweetened condensed milk can be store in the refrigerator for up to 1 week or stored in the freezer for up to 3 months, letting it thaw before using.

Ingredients- Yields around 1 cup

2 cups milk (use your favorite milk)
3/4 cup of granulated sugar
2 tbsp butter (optional to enhance flavor)
1 tsp vanilla extract ((optional to enhance flavor)
