When I went to art school in the late 60s Edward Bawden was high on the list of worthy contemporary illustrators and artists it was hoped we would learn from. But at that time I was completely obsessed with cartoons and I couldn't see what all the fuss was about.
But as the years went by I started to find his work increasingly absorbing. Now I'm considerably older and more catholic in my tastes I can appreciate the many sterling qualities of his skills and visual imagination. I hope you can too.
