Join me as we dig deep into Miner 2049’er — one of the most iconic and best-selling platformers of the early 1980s! In this video, I explore the history, development, and legacy of this classic title, followed by full gameplay on the Commodore 64 version.
Miner 2949'er was designed by Bill Hogue and developed by Big Five Software. Originally made for Atari 8-Bit computers, it was ultimately licensed and ported to 22 different platforms, including the Commodore 64.
In the game, you take on the role of Bounty Bob, a Canadian Mountie who tracked down a dangerous criminal into an abandoned and highly radioactive uranium mine. Your mission is search the entire 10-level mine to find him. Along the way, you will need to avoid radioactive mutants, make treacherous jumps, and make sure to complete each level before the timer runs out.
In the video, we'll look at the development history, examine it's gameplay, and discuss why Miner 2049'er became one of the most memorable games during the Golden Era of home computing.
