The regular meeting of the Fairmede Hilltop Neighborhood Council met on September 25th, 2025 at the Hilltop Neighborhood Community Church.
While the agenda was light, the presentations and discussion had some weight.
Beginning the meeting were Richmond Police beat officers Joseph Deorian and R. Ireland. The provided crime stats before listening to the 30 members of the community assembled for the meeting.
The featured speaker—Assistant Richmond Police Chief Tim Simmons—spoke at length about the status of the Richmond Police Department; the difficulties in working with members of the City Council and some members of the community which are not receptive to anyone who wears a badge; the difficulty in providing the police support the greater population demands when there aren’t enough personnel and hours in the day; the sleeper trailer (necessary for safety reasons when excessive overtime limits the ‘free’ time between shifts); and how reported incidents are handled.
And, of course, he responded to the Q&A afterwards.
