The ethnic conflict in Manipur has shattered homes and snatched lives, affecting so many people from two communities. It has also severely impacted business and the informal trade between India and Myanmar in border town Moreh, Tengnoupal district. Since the Covid-19 surge, the clandestine cross-border trade between two countries has suffered with the sealing of the international border in Manipur. The political instability in Myanmar since the February 2021 coup has led to heightened security measures along the border to check influx of Burmese nationals. Amid multiple challenges, Moreh struggles to maintain its position of commercial pre-eminence as trading bodies demand government support.
