Damage to portable concrete barriers (PCBs) can happen during a crash, but also can occurs while being transported to a location, or in storage. This damage may result in cracks or broken corners to the barriers. There are currently no federal guidelines to determine the life expectancy of PCBs.
Defining service life is important to reducing the risk of unsafe barrier being used on Texas roadways. Researchers documented best practices with respect to management of repairing or replacing PCB segments and developed guidelines to assist in developing a process to determine their service life.
