This is a short documentary that I created for my Production I class during Spring Semester 2023 of college.
Long before the Mayflower arrived in America on November 11th, 1620, there were thousands of Native American tribes each with their culture and their own Gods. One brilliant example of an Indigenous tribe with their own customs would be the legendary nomadic Apache tribe and their fascinating Crown Dancing ritual. This tradition goes back a millennium ago and is still performed today amongst the Apache tribes of New Mexico, Arizona, Texas, and Oklahoma. The tribes or bands that make up the Apache identity are, the Chiricahua, Jicarilla, Lipan, Mescalero, Kiowa, Cibecue, Mimbreño, Coyotero, and Northern and Southern Tonto or Mogollon Apache. The Ga’an Crown Dancers are male dancers who perform their ritualistic dance in a group of five every year for the holiday of the ”Great Mountain Spirit” which commemorates the divine beings named the Ga’an which are said to be the link between the universe and the Earth. They also shield the people against pestilence and war.
Please Enjoy!
Apache White Mountain Dance song comes from this great, cultural video - "White Mountain Apache Crown Dancers A Blessing for the People"
