The Space In Between

Tango is not just a dance; it is a language of breath, weight, and trust.

This film began as an exploration of intimacy, the quiet kind that does not announce itself, but is felt in the pause before a step, in the shared rhythm of two bodies listening to each other. I have always longed for that kind of softness.

I come from a place where life has often been harsh. From a society where minority voices are made to shrink, where love can be interrupted by fear, and where identity becomes something to defend rather than simply live. I have known what it means to navigate the world with caution, to be pulled out of a moving cab, to feel the threat simply because of who I am, to witness a country rich in cultures and histories being reshaped into a single, narrow idea of belonging.

In such a world, softness becomes a form of resistance.

This documentary is part of my practice of relearning tenderness. I chose tango because it allows two strangers to create a world based on trust, presence, and honest vulnerability without words, without pasts, without explanations. In that space, identity is not questioned, judged, or threatened. It is simply held.

By making this film, I wanted to tell a story that is gentle, not because the world is gentle, but because it isn’t. Amid hatred and noise, I chose to show what is still possible: closeness, warmth, human connection. A small gesture of hope. A quiet insistence that beauty still exists, even now. Especially now.

The film is not about performance; it is about breath, leaning, and accepting. It is my way of saying that even in difficult times, tenderness survives. That we can choose to hold each other, instead of harming each other.

This is my resistance.
Not through anger, but through softness.
Not through shouting, but through presence.
Not through erasure, but through connection.

A simple, small step toward imagining a kinder world.
