As with my other Steam in China videos, these are extended and completely re-edited versions of short clips uploaded 12 years ago.
Steam enthusiasts need no introduction to the spectacle of the Ji Tong Railway in China’s Inner Mongolia province. The 943km line opened in 1995 and to great surprise was operated exclusively by QJ class 2-10-2 steam locomotives until complete dieselisation in 2005. What a magnificent ten years!
Although the Jing Peng Pass in the central section received most coverage, other sections of the line were well worth a visit.
Steam in China 2003 parts 1 to 3 cover winter steam on the eastern side of the Ji Tong line from Zhelimou to the Pass, including Daban loco depot, the last standard gauge main line steam shed in the world. Sit back and enjoy scenes of winter steam action that will never be repeated
