Continuation of re-edited video shot during my 2003 visit to China.
The highlight of the Ji Tong Railway was the Jing Peng Pass approximately midway along the line. This spectacular section attracted numerous railway enthusiasts from many parts of the world. It became the most photographed and videoed section of railway in the world during the last days of working steam. In order to record the volcanic steam effects at their best, most visits were made during mid-winter when the temperature could fall to about minus twenty degrees Centigrade and sometimes lower. Frequent high wind added a wind chill factor that lowered the temperature even more. Most visitors wore appropriate cold weather clothing and seemed to suffer no lasting ill effects. Cameras usually survived but batteries needed to be kept warm in a trouser pocket until just before required.
Those that managed to visit China during the ten years the Pass was 100% steam enjoyed a never to be forgotten experience.
