The Fremantle traffic bridge will close on 01 Feb 2026. To ensure drivers in the area know about this beforehand, Main Roads has setup a double ring of variable message signs on the main routes serviced by this bridge. Anything within that ring is within the "information blast radius".
There's a smaller "blast radius" within the wider circle, and that's where cyclists require information about the bridge closure. Unfortunately, Main Roads has really dropped the ball when it comes to providing and maintaining detour signage, informational signage and maps within the cycling circle.
Main Roads managers might argue that the Alliance contractors are responsible - but Main Roads management is accountable for what the contractors do (or fail to do).
It would be nice if some updated maps and detour signs could be put in place for cyclists before the old bridge shuts for demolition.
