Gear processing technology in developed countries is almost fully automated. The processing line is almost closed from processing workpieces to cutting teeth, scraping teeth, grinding teeth.

Machining of gears by profiling (using graduated heads) is only suitable for single cases because it is very time consuming and does not guarantee accuracy. In the encapsulation method, the gear is machined according to the tooth rolling method. Classification according to the degree of automation, there are two types: classical tooth roller milling machine and CNC tooth roller milling machine.

The classic tooth roller has no controls. To link the transmission chains together, the operator must calculate and install additional gear sets for gears with different numbers of teeth.

The CNC tooth roller milling machine basically has the same structural principle as the classic tooth roller milling machine, but uses a controller to control the machine's motors, so there is no need to use alternative gear pairs.
