Thank you for watching the garden tour today. I am certainly not an expert and have made many mistakes gardening throughout the years. I know just enough to be dangerous in the garden. LOL

I learned how to garden on the family farm in Southwest Arkansas at an early age. All I wanted to do was to get away from the farm, country homesteading (cows, chickens, working in the garden, harvesting, canning, milking cows) and go to the big city. Well, that love for gardening was already instilled in me and though I didn’t do it for years, that love came back with a vengeance.

That hidden passion started in the classroom as I was sharing with my students in science how to plant seeds in cups. My passion escalated to putting seeds in pots when we lived in an apartment and going back home to bring loads of vegetables back to the city. Even in the small apartment, I was starting to can and freeze whatever I could get my hands on. I quickly realized that I remembered everything that my mom, sister and aunt had taught me about preservation.

When we purchased our first home, gardening was not on my mind. I was busy working and achieving my Master’s and Doctorate Degrees and of course, being a Mom and wife. Then work, work and more work.

I started buying gardening, canning and preservation books just for my reading pleasure. Yep! That’s what I thought. Eventually one raised bed turned into more raised beds. Next came an in-ground 8x34 garden. This was enough. I think! I also visit the local farmer’s markets weekly. Then, my travels branched into visiting local orchards and U-Pick farms.

I am retired now and enjoying doing me. I love cooking, canning, fermenting, creating recipes, exploring kitchen gadgets, gardening, feeding others and this beautiful life God has given me. It’s what I do! Sadie’s Kitchen and more!
