After catching PNWR 664 at the Hillsboro-Silverton Hwy crossing in Woodburn featuring EM gates, I quickly chased the train over to Donald in hopes of getting this crossing recorded in time. Thankfully, the train ended up slowing down which let me to get by a crossing on Butteville Road NE a dozen seconds before that crossing activated. After arriving in Donald, I was left with a couple minutes to spare before PNWR 664 came rolling through town with its quintet of GP39-2s for power and an unpatched ex-ATSF Bluebonnet in the lead.
This crossing is certainly a nice one, featuring some old Safetran cantilever signals installed by the BN in the mid-late 1970s. Aside from the gate arms and the retrofitting of the far signal with Safetran LEDs in the late 1990s and the later retrofit of the near signal with Leotek IL Series LEDs around 2013-2014, nothing else has changed with the signals since installation. The original mid-1970s style Safetran gate mechanisms, 1970s Safetran light heads, and the Safetran mechanical bell pair all remain intact, and hopefully will for years to come.
