Swami Prabhavananda was the founder of the Vedanta Society of Southern California. He was a disciple of Swami Brahmananda, the Spiritual son of Sri Ramakrishna and came to the West in the 1923 and founded the Hollywood center in 1930.
In the following decades he attracted some of the leading intellectuals, scientists, authors, and spiritual seekers including Aldous Huxley, Christopher Isherwood, and Gerald Heard.
