Christianity is a mind virus of deception and control - Jo-Ann

Today I spoke with Jo-Ann, who grew up Catholic and eventually placed her faith in Jesus as her Savior, but ultimately deconverted as the truth claims of Christianity fell apart.

We touched on many topics, including:

• Growing up in a French Canadian Catholic home where church was a tradition rather than a personal relationship with a god.
• As a child, praying with rosary beads and cherishing a crucifix keepsake.
• In her teens, attending a charismatic retreat led by a nun that sparked a profound spiritual experience.
• Attending a Pentecostal church that led her to an intense conversion and deep Bible study.
• Serving as a worship leader and cell group mentor as she grew in her faith.
• Embracing faith‑based politics by running for provincial office under the New Apostolic Reformation’s Seven Mountains strategy.
• Becoming disillusioned as she witnessed financial exploitation and leadership hypocrisy within the church.
• Starting to doubt end‑times prophecies and see through scriptural inconsistencies, which drove her to question fundamental Christian claims.
• Becoming exposed to comparative mythology and many other ideas that further eroded her faith.
• Finding her beliefs collapsing, leading to loneliness, alcohol use, and a deep identity crisis.
• Briefly exploring the Hebrew Roots and Sacred Name movements before finding them similarly false.
• Fully deconverting from Christianity and beginning to reclaim her identity.
• Coming to see religious teachings as “mind viruses” implanted without evidence and passed on from victim to victim.
• Recovering her sense of self by disentangling from constructs, roles, and rules that had defined her for decades, and identifying how people in society try to control each other.
• Starting to help guide others through doubt toward honest exploration.
