The Punjab government has approved the “Wheat Policy 2026” under the decisive and reform-oriented leadership of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.

According to a handout issued here on Friday this policy establishes a historic framework, led by the private sector, for the maintenance, holding and supply of strategic wheat reserves.

It has been designed to ensure food security, market stability and the timely availability of wheat.

As per the vision of the CM, Punjab is committed to supporting it's farmers, stabilizing food markets and protecting consumers through smart governance.

Wheat policy 2026 ensures food security without burdening tax payers


Dispelling the impression of any disruption in the supply of flour across Punjab, Director General Food Punjab Amjad Hafeez on Monday said that flour mills in the province grounded a total of 33,000 metric tons of wheat , out of which approximately 15,000 metric tons was released from the government stocks at controlled rates.

He said the supply of flour across Punjab is sufficient and fully stable, with market stability being maintained through controlled release and strict monitoring by the Punjab government.

He stated flour mills across Punjab ground a total of 33,000 metric tons of wheat, out of which approximately 15,000 metric tons of government wheat were released to flour mills at controlled rates. On the same day, around 2 million flour bags were supplied to the market which was higher than the daily average.

He said there is no shortage of flour in the market. Amjad Hafeez further said that 950,000 flour bags were provided in the market at officially notified rates which were more than sufficient to meet the demand. He added that flour is available in the market at official prices of Rs 905 for a 10-kg bag and Rs 1,810 for a 20-kg bag.

The DG Food said that field teams are continuously conducting market inspections to ensure compliance with official rates, and price control magistrates take immediate action upon reports of overpricing. He added that there is zero tolerance across the province against hoarding, profiteering, rumors, and speculation.
