A slow bike ride through Pappu Valley to Ziro, exploring Arunachal Pradesh’s tribal culture, local food, peaceful life in Northeast India, organic oranges, a cosy Apatani dinner & settling at Stargaze Backpackers hostel.

I started my day riding from Bana towards Ziro, and within an hour, Arunachal Pradesh surprised me in the most beautiful way possible. The fog-covered Pappu Valley looked unreal, almost like a dream I didn’t want to wake up from.

After spending some quiet moments there, I continued the journey, crossing the Pappu River, endless green landscapes, and peaceful paddy fields. On the way, I stopped to meet local tribal women selling fresh vegetables. One of them offered me Pitha, a simple yet delicious local snack made of rice, coconut, and sugar.

A little further ahead, I came across oranges sold in traditional bamboo baskets by the Nyishi tribe — no plastic, just sustainable living. For just ₹50 per kg, I could carry fresh oranges without harming the environment. The small shop also sold organic vegetables, Nyishi jewellery, and beautifully woven local baskets.

After breakfast in a quiet town, the ride continued peacefully until I finally reached Ziro Valley. I expected a village, but Ziro turned out to be a lively town. The cold pushed me straight to Stargaze Backpacker Hostel in Biiri, where I met a fellow Malayali traveler. Over some wine and an authentic Apatani dinner, the journey felt complete.

In the coming days, we’ll explore Ziro’s villages, culture, food, and everyday life. This is slow travel in Northeast India, the way it’s meant to be experienced.
