FIELD MEETING Take 4: Thinking Practice - Heba Y. Amin (ACAW 2016)
"The General's Stork"
In 2013, Egyptian authorities detained a migratory stork traveling from Israel to Egypt because of an electronic device attached to its leg. It was suspected of espionage. In this lecture-performance, Heba Amin converges historical accounts, biblical prophecies, colonial narratives, and politics of surveillance to investigate the contemporary conditions of a state paranoia that turned a migrating bird into an international spy.
An annual signature program of Asia Contemporary Art Week, FIELD MEETING Take 4: Thinking Practice was a two-day forum dedicated to newly conceived performances, lecture-performances, and lively discussions, hosted at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum & Asia Society Museum, New York on November 11 & 12. Curated by ACAW Director, Leeza Ahmady.
