This film short promotes the city of Louisville, Kentucky and a clothing line of Navy and Old Salt sportswear featuring a type of easy care polyester fabric known as Fortrel. The clothing line was sold by J.C. Penney in the 1960s. The film starts with shots of a riverboat along the Ohio River as well as shots of the city limits sign. At 1:20 a visit to Churchill Downs, the home of the Kentucky Derby. At 1:41 the Derby Museum is shown. At 2:00 college couples pose for snapshots at a statue of Daniel Boone. At 2:15 they visit Farmington, which was designed by Thomas Jefferson. At 2:51 a visit to the University of Louisville and a statue of Rodin's Thinker. At 3:19 a visit to the Kentucky Railroad Museum. At 3:50, 1000 revelers are seen in front of the J.C. Penney building. The parade moves down to the wharf area where the steamboat Belle of Louisville is docked. A co-ed is crowned beauty queen and then the sternwheeler gets underway. The Stephen Foster Singers perform at 5:30.

Belle of Louisville is a steamboat owned and operated by the city of Louisville, Kentucky, and moored at its downtown wharf next to the Riverfront Plaza/Belvedere during its annual operational period. Originally named Idlewild, she was built by James Rees & Sons Company in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, for the West Memphis Packet Company in 1914 and was first put into service on the Allegheny River. Constructed with an all-steel superstructure and asphalt main deck, the steamboat is said[by whom?] to hold the all-time record in her class for miles traveled, years in operation, and places visited. Belle of Louisville's offices are aboard Mayor Andrew Broaddus, also a National Historic Landmark.
