Jimmy and I play Dougie MacLean's 'Caledonia' on Jimmy's bespoke guitar and my favourite McSpadden dulcimer. The song means a lot to us: we're Scots and both know what it feels like to have lived elsewhere and then returned home. Our nationalism is very different to that unpleasant, toxic kind that is rising in England and elsewhere. We are a welcoming people and a migrant who chooses to make a home here is looked on as a fellow Scot.
