Murray Laing
I’m a life-long guitar player and song writer who discovered that the multiple sclerosis that both damaged my hands and left me too fatigued to play in public was really an opportunity in disguise.
I could still play guitar, but I had to find strategies for coping with loss of feeling and strength in my hands. Barre chords became almost impossible, so I developed a style that didn't need them. And this led to playing all sorts of instruments that just didn't benefit from holding all the strings down at the same time.
I now play all sorts of guitars, but also dulcimers, banjo, and sitar. I play sitting down - because I have to - but that led to a weird sitar technique I would not otherwise have thought of.
I would like to make the point that age and disability stop you doing some of the things you used to do, but going along a different path leads to new discoveries.
Join me on the journey,
Murray
