'Bonny at Morn' dates from about 1800 on the English-Scottish Border; I'm playing it on an Appalachian dulcimer made by George Orthey in 1984 in Pennsylvania, USA.
Stuff for dulcimer geeks:-
I acquired an Orthey dulcimer thinking that a dulcimer made in 1984 would sound good tuned DAa. It didn't at first - though I've since worked out that tuning to d on the third fret solves the problem. I guess it's the high nut that lets you play with a noter and get a tremolo when you dig in. Tuned DAd, my electronic tuner said the intonation was spot-on but it sounded harsh (reminiscent of the early cd players before DAC conversion). However . . . tuned DAc it really sings . . . and as instruments often tell you what to play on them, this one found 'Bonny at Morn'.
