Purpose: Due to the global pandemic, students and teachers are mandated to stay at home. With the urge on continuous education, DepEd mandated the utilization of distant learning including Online Distance Learning (ODL). Playful Learning Environments (PLEs) has been showing positive outcome in the teaching and learning process. It is tested that learning through gamification has significant effect on learners. With this, the researchers assessed the effects of the integration of Playful Learning Environment with Online teaching through Digital Playful Learning Environment (DPLE).
Design/methodology/approach: The study was conducted with 21 online students from Grade 8 Chastity. Pretest-posttest research design was utilized. This was conducted on second quarter of SY 2020-2021.
Findings: The standard deviations were 2.75 for pretest and 2.60 for posttest. A significant difference of 0.15 was seen. A total MPS of 30.48% on pretest and 82.08% on posttest were recorded. A significant difference of 51.60% was seen. In addition, a computed t-value of 28.9 with a significance value of 0.00001 was obtained. A significant difference was seen.
Research limitations/implications: This research was only limited with learners under online distant learning. The number of students participating in online classes declined drastically from 45 to 21 due to some technical issues. The gamification methods were teacher made.
Originality/value: PLEs are new concept in education that integrate play. Since the pandemic began, distance learning has been implemented. The researcher tried to implement the concept of play in a digital concept.
