Rough idle issues seem to be a pretty common issues among Evo owners. Stalling when coming to a stop, bouncing idle and inconsistent idle speed are among those issues.
According to one of the Evo forums, a user said the black coating on and around the butterfly valve on the throttle body was intentionally applied by Mitsubishi to stop air leakage around the butterfly valve and many owners clean off that black coating thinking it’s carbon buildup and therefore allowing air to leak causing idle issues.
That user suggested using a dry moly lube on and around the butterfly valve to essentially replace the coating from the factory that was wiped off, creating a seal that should help idle issues.
I’m going to try that theory and see if it helps resolve the idle issues I’ve been having with my 246,000 mile Evo 8.
