Rare Newly Restored 1926 P+H 206 Crane - Part 2 - FZ1000 - Lakeside Sand & Gravel 2023 Open House

6:30, Gallery showing details of the controls and steering clutches. Everything is built massive, which is why it still runs well after 97 years. No plastic visible.

7:02 - Steering jaw clutches. Only one clutch can be disengaged at a time, controlled by the steering wheel next to the operator controls. Apparently no steering brakes, so you have to think when operating on a hill. Note that P+H advertisements show one of these going up a steep grade.

7:40 - Pinion on the steering wheel shaft, shown disengaged from the large diameter thin steering control gear on the lower. A lever on top of the steering wheel controls sliding the pinion downward into engagement.

8:10 - The thick horizontal gear is travel, drives down through the center pin.

8:30 - The thick lower gear is the swing gear, the thin upper gear engages with the pinion on the steering wheel shaft to disengage either of the steering clutches.

9:36 - Master clutch lever with locking pawl. Control shaft goes inside the frame at the back. Lever going to center of the big gear is TBD.

9:52 - Steering wheel, with lever on top to engage pinion. Suspect the lever with pawl next to it is house lock for travel. Front drum is dig, rear drum is hoist. Boom hoist drum is at top of A-frame.

9:58 - Main controls. (L-R): Swing, Close/Drag/Crowd, Hoist. On swing, you don't push/pull. Instead, the lever moves sideways to engage either one of the 2 semicircular segments, like a gearshift, then you pull. The center lever is set up the same way for crowd/rehaul on a shovel front. I suspect that the center lever also controls bidirectional travel, need to confirm. Big fat brake pedals for hoist and dig drums. Seat height is adjustable by unbolting.

10:09 - Looks like a parking brake pedal, TBD.

When Lakeside first started out, their first real excavator was one of these, now long gone.

This machine was found on Long Island, NY, and was transported across Long Island Sound on a WW-II LST.

It arrived in hopeless condition, just a pile of rust. That just meant that the restoration took a bit longer than usual.

The gears are noisy when not under load, you might want to turn down the sound. They are not as loud with load.
