【Kajiri Kamui Kagura Dawn of Light】ー Chapter 1 December - Hotsuma, Part 1 (English)

Merry Christmas, everyone!

We have at least finished Chapter 1 of Kajiri Kamui Kagura after two months. A lot of things happened, good and bad, but at last, we finally got our Christmas present!

About some of our specific plan, we will upload a chapter once every few months, but the final goal is to create an English Patch for Kajiri Kamui Kagura. Until then, and as for the current plan, we will upload our translation of the main story to receive as much as feedback from the community as possible to fix any possible issue, and improve our translation further!

Kajiri Kamui Kagura does not follow typical chapter division format "Chapter ?: ~ (Title)" but by its time (month) and the location of events. Hence, you will see the title of Kajiri Kamui Kagura's chapters as "Month - Location".

Chapter 1 begins with Koga Rindou, head of the Koga Clan, the greatest warrior clan of the Divine Province has a prophetic dream of an incoming battle ended with a grim conclusion. After awakening from the dream, she has a meeting with Mikado Ryuumei of the Mikado Clain, in a discussion about the looming country's crises, challenges, and the coming Imperial Tournament that might have a profound impact on the future of their country. Meanwhile, Sakagami Habaki was summoned to the main residence of the Mikado Clan by the order of Mikado Ryuumei, there he meets Mibu Soujiro, who was likewise in a similar circumstance to him...

Translation Notes:

In the previous video, there were a lot of skeptical voices about our choice of translation on various terms in Kajiri Kamui Kagura. So I will use and explain some of the terms for everyone to know the reason.

Maraloka: In the Japanese Text, Hajun’s Law is 天狗道, the name of Madou/Gedou or Demon Realm in Japanese Buddhism, which is the abode of Mara outside the Six Paths of Reincarnation, and Mara is the archnemesis of Gautama Buddha. Plus, “道” has the same meaning as “world” in Buddhism, since 天狗道 is the Demon Realm, hence, “Maraloka” or “World of Demon”.

Ashuraloka: Reinhard’s Law is 修羅道, reflects the World of Asura in Six Paths of Reincarnation, thus, “Ashuraloka” or “World of Ashura”, which is the essence and the core of his Law.

These are some examples regarding Buddhism Terms, and we obviously will use pinyin for Chinese Terms, such as Taiji being "Taiji", and not "Taikyoku".

Dies Irae: Pantheon’s Godhood will not be used for title of Gods in Kajiri Kamui Kagura, because Pantheon was released after Kaijri Kamui Kagura, and the Gods have underwent spiritual enlightenment from their past-self. In Shinza Bansho, Godhood is about spiritual enlightenment, which can have a profound effect on the craving of a God, such as Marie’s transformation into a Hegemony God.

Kajiri Kamui Kagura’s Writing is very similar to ancient Eastern literature, so we have to take liberty in many parts to convey the proses in English. However, we also try to keep the writing to be close to Japanese Text as possible, hence, you would see cases where a character would insert a proverb to describe a situation and its context without elaborating any further, which is a common writing technique in Eastern literature. If anyone is serious about following Kajiri Kamui Kagura, we would advise to grasp whether Eastern literature you could get to have an idea on the “flow” of Kajiri Kamui Kagura’s writing, even cultivation novels could be used as references (albeit only to some extent).

Translation Terms:

Divine Province (神州), ancient name used by China and Japan to refer themselves as the “Land of Gods” to show their importance and position as the center of the world to foreign countries.

Champion (益荒男) as paragons of virtuous qualities for others to learn and follow in the ideals of Koga Rindou.

Forsaken (化外) are ancient inhabitants of the world until they were purged by the modern inhabitants of the new world. As beings cursed, and abandoned by God, there was not a better term to describe them than “Forsaken”.

Deviation (歪み), extraordinary powers originated from the Yin Energy of the east of Divine Province and its locals. As powers of another world, they defy and violate the working logics and laws of the existing world.

Aberrant (歪み者), possessors of dense concentration of Yin Energy that they can manifest logic-defying powers that do not follow the laws of the existing world.
