Bombil Curry | Fish Curry | Bombil Kalvan | Bombay duck curry
About 15 Bombil/Bombay duck
1 tsp salt
¾ tsp turmeric (haldi)
2 tbsp oil
10-15 curry leaves (kadhipatta)
2 cups hot water
1 kokum
For the masala paste:
1 cup fresh grated coconut
1 green chili
1 inch piece ginger
Handful of coriander leaves
7-8 garlic cloves
1 medium onion
3 tbsp kohlapuri masala OR kanda lasun masala OR red chili powder + garam masala
½ -¾ cup water
Blend the masala paste ingredients to a smooth paste and keep aside.
Apply salt and turmeric to the bombil and marinate for 15 minutes.
Heat oil, add curry leaves. Then add the ground masala paste and saute and cook until oil separates.
Cover and cook on medium flame for 5-7 minutes. Add water and mix well.
Bring to a boil, cover slightly and cook another 5-7 minutes on medium flame until oil separates.
Add in the bombil one at a time, mix lightly as this fish is very delicate and breaks easily.
Add kokum, cook on low flame until the fish is soft.
Bombil curry is ready to serve!
Serve with steamed rice.
