What happens when you sit down for a meal in the heart of Sri Lanka’s countryside… where every ingredient is grown just a few feet away?

In this episode, my journey takes a beautiful, unexpected turn.
After days of travelling through mountains, rocks, and tiny tea shops, today I stepped into a space where food isn’t just cooked — it’s nurtured.

At Ayurveda Sigiriya, right beside Aaliya Resort, I witnessed Sri Lankan cooking in its purest, most honest form. Coconut oil warming on the fire… curry leaves crackling… red rice steaming… spices opening up their fragrance… and jackfruit bubbling gently in coconut milk — these weren’t just dishes. They were stories. Stories of land, tradition, patience, and deep love for food.

Everything was prepared right before my eyes — fresh beans, green leaves, dal simmered in coconut milk, coconut chutney hand-ground on a stone, even baby jackfruit cooked to perfection.
Simple ingredients… but so soulful that each bite felt like meeting Sri Lanka all over again.

What moved me the most were the people. The warmth in their smiles, the pride in their cooking, the generosity in their serving. In their kitchen, I wasn’t a guest — I was family.

And as we ate overlooking endless paddy fields, I felt something shift inside me…
This is what travel does — it slows you down, opens you up, and lets you savour life in its most natural form.

Sri Lanka’s spirit lives in these flavours — earthy, honest, bold, and unforgettable.
