Sine Wave guitar specs: Strings: Martin M170 80/20 Bronze - Extra Light .010/.047 Five piece, carbon fiber reinforced maple/ebony neck. 23.5” scale length. 19” wide carved sitka spruce top. Ebony bridge and fretboard. The beam through the center of the body is made from a very stiff piece of quarter sawn wood, with two square 10mm carbon rods in the center and multiple layers of carbon fiber laminated to both sides in a press for added rigidity and light weight. The 10mm rods that support the outside rim are solid carbon fiber - for rigidity and a high internal resonant frequency to protect against overtones or damping that might take string energy away from the top. The outside rim is a molded carbon fiber reinforced composite - designed for density and rigidity. The rim and the edge of the top form a total side depth of 1”. The guitar weighs 1/2 oz under 6 lbs/2.72kg. The top braces are made from tightly grained Sitka spruce, and are transformed into compression trusses with the addition of carbon fiber strips. The carbon strips allow you to carve the X braces slimmer - removing mass that the strings must vibrate to make sound, while at the same time putting the braces into compression. This transfers some of the down pressure created by the string break angle over the bridge directly to the carbon strips - putting them under tension. During carefully controlled decibel meter testing (each part repeated ten times and an average result computed) at different frequencies on a custom test rig, the compression truss brace outperformed a standard shaped brace by a considerable margin. The Sine Wave is capable of producing 95db of volume with hard strums on a first position Emaj chord, measured with my db meter 12-16” from the top. I feel that this is a surprising level of volume coming from a short 23.5” scale with extra light gauge strings. A big “Thank You!” to Jason Flores at Krivo pickups for his kind and knowledgable assistance, and for his “Universal Acoustic Mini-Humbucker” pickup. It is designed to work with bronze wound acoustic strings and make great acoustic tones come out of an amp, and Jason is great to work with when you’re dealing with an out-of-the-ordinary instrument that will need a little special attention. He sent me two different pickups to test - and in full disclosure, I happily paid for the one I kept. A link to this pickup on the Krivo website is below, as well as a link to part one of this video series.
