Rest days should involve some form of movement. Never just "rest" in the sense of laying around. Take 20-30 minutes and walk on a treadmill, bike, row, jump around. Do something to keep the body loose.
Even a dry sauna or steam sauna will be a great recovery tool. Just do something to help keep blood flowing to your muscles and joints. Your body will thank you and even if you are injured this will help with the healing process.
