A quest to save the traditional ‘Papier-mâché’ craft from dying has led two brothers in Kashmir to learn the art, make it their calling and bring in new designs and colour combinations. The brothers -- Hashim Ali Khan and Maisar Ali Khan – from Hassanabad locality of Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, learnt the craft from their father Shabir Hussain Khan who has been into it for the last 50 years. The Khan brothers developed an interest in the art form seeing their father's work. The art include pure gold for creating designs and colour schemes for the Papier-mâché items. The brothers have been using social media to connect with customers far and wide to sell their products. In the process, they also try to attract youth towards the craft. They say Kashmiri youth are more attracted to government jobs resulting in the slow death of this traditional craft.
