The Sanger sequencing procedure remains the gold standard for DNA sequencing due to its ease and cost-effectiveness. It can be used to detect mutations that can help us to understand the causes of disease, such as cancer.
Sanger sequencing is used here to detect mutations in the Adenomatous polyposis coli (APC) tumour suppressor gene, which can be associated with colorectal cancer. DNA sequencing of cancer gene mutations is demonstrated by William Cross and directed by Rosemary Clyne.
