Lecture 21: Fisher Information, Cramer Rao Bound, Quantum Generalisation and Limitations

Good parametrisation of data is quantified in terms of the Fisher information. The Cramer-Rao bound relates it to the best precision possible for the parameters. The optimal state to sense a signal is the eigenvector for the largest eigenvalue of the Fisher information metric, in both classical and quantum cases. Maximisation of the commutator norm of the quantum density matrix and the observable is carried out in any dimension. Limitations of the quantum advantage possible with quantum Boltzmann machines are pointed out.
