This video gives a basic idea and process behind doing a hand sewn carpet bullnose step. I’d say around only 1 or 2 in 10 carpet guy can actually do hand sewn work so It’s not done so much these days because it’s also time consuming and therefore comes at a cost. Due to this often customers opt for what we call call a cap and band finish instead. Still looks great but having a hand sewn bullnose step keeps the waterfall effect of the carpet continuing down onto the bottom step and then matches the rest of the stairs.
Like with anything though each to their own and this is just a little insight into the process.
During this video you will notice I also had a hand injury so it the best finish achieved at the end, far from perfect but still more than acceptable.
