EASD 2024 Hot Topic Session – Ypsomed

In our Hot Topic session, Prof. Helen Murphy and Dr. Pilar Beato-Víbora explained how AID systems help women with type 1 diabetes achieve their glucose targets during pregnancy.

Pregnant women with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) tend to have large babies, approximately 50% of them will have babies with Large for Gestational Age (LGA). LGA is associated with preterm birth and the need for neonatal intensive care support. In utero exposure to hyperglycaemia predisposes babies to obesity, cardiovascular disease, Type 2 Diabetes, and neurocognitive issues, such as Autism Spectrum Disorder, later in life.

Prof. Murphy emphasised that strict glycaemic targets are essential both in planning and during pregnancy to avoid complications. mylife loop makes it easier for women to achieve these goals because the CamAPS FX algorithm continuously adjusts insulin delivery.
