India on & off the Rails - Part 2 - National Rail Museum - Driver's Eye View, Shimla Rly - Amritsar

In Part 2 of this series of videos covering the 2024 Railway Touring Company “Railways of the Raj” holiday, we start off with a visit to the Delhi National Railway Museum where we see an eclectic collection of locomotives and rolling stock representing Indian railways over the years.
The following day we caught the Kalka Shatabdi Express to Chandigarh to visit the weird and wonderful Nek Chand Rock Garden and Sukhna Lake. Following a comfortable night in the nearby Lalit hotel we made our way to Kalka station for the second narrow gauge railway highlight of this tour, to travel over the entire Kalka Shimla Railway in the railway's unique Rail Motor No.72451. With cameras fixed to the front of the train we see this breathtaking route from the drivers perspective as we climb from 656 metres (2,152ft) at Kalka to 2,075 metres (6,808ft) at Shimla, passing over numerous arch gallery bridges and through more than 100 tunnels.
We stayed at the Oberoi Cecil Hotel, Shimla’s most exclusive hotel during the time of the British Raj. During our stay we take a look around the town including the Viceregal Lodge, one time summer retreat for the President of India.
Having enjoyed a few days in Shimla we catch an early morning flight to Amritsar, arriving early enough in the day to allow a full days guided tour of the city including the stunning Golden Temple
