3 Days Camping in the Australian Outback – Red Claw Catch & Cook, Campfires & Kayaking

What was meant to be a camping trip at our usual off-grid spot on the Walsh River turned into something completely unexpected. When the station was closed unexpectedly, a local friend in Chillagoe, Queensland pointed us to a hidden campsite and it did not disappoint.

With only a few hours of daylight left, we set up camp before sunset and kicked off a 3-day outback adventure. From building campfires and cooking over the coals, to catching and cooking red claw crayfish, kayaking the river, and spotting wildlife in the 35°C heat, this trip had everything we love about remote bush camping.

Along the way we explored rugged tracks, enjoyed good food, and embraced the simplicity of living off-grid in the heart of the Queensland outback.
